 The consul general of Ukraine in Almaty Sergey Shidlovsky visited Hesed "Polina" today to present WWII veterans participants of Ukraine rescue from the fascism with the WWII 60th Anniversary Medal.
 "I would like to thank the veterans on behalf of my country for their deed for Ukraine" the consul said in his opening speech. "Dear veterans, we are glad to meet you and we appreciate this opportunity to express gratitude to you.
"I am glad to see that you still remember friendship between our peoples. I wish you sound health, happiness, and peace."
 120000 Soviet Jews died in WWII, 80000 Jewish soldiers fell prisoners and were shot up. In general 501000 Jews fought in WWII (334000 soldiers, 167000 officers, 200 generals).
"We are honored to welcome you in this hall" the President of "Mitsva" Association Alexandr Baron addressed the veterans. "It's hard to imagine what could have happened to our planet if Soviet army had not defeated Germany".
Unfortunately, not all nominees of Almaty Jewish community could visit the ceremony of medal award. Many of them have long been homebound. They will receive he medals at home. Representatives of "Mitsva" Association will take care of that.
