If everything is all right, the Seventh Jewish Book Community Festival (OFEK) will be held in Almaty in the nearest future. This time its organizer - Jewish republican library - called everybody for taking part in holiday preparations and offering original ideas, concerning the holding of the Festival.
We remind that book exhibitions, concerts and even Jewish cooking contests were held in the last years in the framework of OFEK. Thus, Jewish book festival grew into a holiday of Jewish culture. In the period of festival there were also held exhibitions of works of Jewish painters - works of those who are alive (for example, Yuriy Shneiderman) and those who are not already with us (Abram Tcherkasskiy, Isaac Itkind, Meer Akselrot and other).
It’s worth mentioning that having started its procession in Kiev in 1996, OFEK extremely surprised Kazakhstani citizens. The first festival was held in Almaty in 1998, and not a single special exposition of books of Jewish authors happened to be held before it. Initially the festival was organized as means of propaganda of the Jewish book. Usually publishing of polygraphic production is also dated for the festival. For example, bookmarks or colorful calendars with images of famous Jews.
Calendars with photos of Moris Simashko, Natalya Sats and others have already been issued. One obligatory holiday attribute became meetings with Jewish writers and poets. Among them were such authors as Eli Luksemburg, Svetlana Shteingruth-Aksenova, Elena Akselrot, Michael Beizer, David Markesh.
Meetings called "memorial evenings" were held in the framework of OFEK as well. In the course of them it was told about famous Jews of the past. For example, about Lidiya Kelberg, Eva Kogan etc. Films on Jewish subjects were shown in cinemas.
Festival does not forget even about the smallest community members. Children programs of Hasadim and Community centers prepare special drawing exhibitions on the subjects "My favorite book". Kids themselves put on the stage plays based on poems and stories, represented on the Jewish Book Festival. Professional actors and directors of theatres named after Sats and named after Lermontov, help children to stage their plays.
This time OFEK program is not confirmed yet - there are still preparatory works. There was created an idea generator headquarters, later there would be chosen an executive body of it.
