 Almaty Jewish community center prepares to a coming Lag B’Omer holiday. Namely, it finishes a discussion of holiday program, which will become a present for 50 active volunteers of the center.
The fun will be held in one of sanatoriums of the city. It is planned to organize a pick-nick and many other things. For example, there will be held an archery competition among the participants. Thus, there will be observed one of holiday customs - archery - an obligatory Lag B’ Omer attribute outside Eretz Israel. As for Eretz Israel itself, there Lag B’Omer is marked overall and with much more fun.
One more obligatory part of the holiday is fire. That day should be obligatory marked with making a fire and lighting candles. The allegory is as follows - in culture of major nations of the world, light is connected with knowledge. And Lag B’Omer is a day when before his death Rabbi Shimon bar Iohay got G-d’s afflatus. The creator of the book "Zoar" - the main and the most famous book in cabbalistic literature - ordered not to bemoan him, but to rejoice. Though, it is still arguable was that he who wrote that comment to Torah or not.
So, everybody must have a fun on Lag B’Omer. Even 7 days of half-mourning (a time between Pesach and Shavouth), when it is forbidden to organize weddings, don’t sadden Lag B’Omer - that day all people must rejoice and may organize weddings.
A lecture, which will be held in the framework of an entertainment program for volunteers of the center, will be devoted to holiday history and customs.
