MEMORY IS ALIVE

Almaty 22.04.2005

A memorial evening of Lev Novak, a famous Kazakhstani builder, was held in a former House of Culture. Today thousands of people live in houses built by him.

This year Lev Ukelevitch could be 80. His friends, colleagues, workers of Almaty house-building plant came to recall with kind words that wonderful person, a skillful specialist and talented leader. The evening was conducted by a son of Lev Novak - Aleksandr.

A spare hall of House of Culture was overcrowded with guests. A portrait of Lev Ukelevitch smiled to all the comers from the stage, decorated with alive flowers.

"Our family is glad to greet all of you this evening", on opening the meeting Aleksandr Novak told. "I believe, my father would be happy to celebrate his 80th birthday exactly in this society."

Photos, telling about Novak's life, family, work, interests, changed each other on a big screen. Recollections of Lev Ukelevitch's dear people and co-workers were full of sincerity and warmth.

"On May 9, on the 60th anniversary of Victory Day, I will charge my glass and drink to a lieutenant Lev Ukelevitch Novak, a glorious son of Motherland, a real patriot, courageous front-line soldier, a leader of machine gunner platoon, who bravely fought against Fascism!" promise one of Novak's friends, a colonel Leonid Girsh.

Each guest of the evening got a wonderful present - a book "Lev Novak: between two seas".

"Now it became modern: everybody is absorbed in recollections, everybody writes books", Novak family members tell. "Why not. Let it be not always interesting for "wide auditorium", but, it goes without saying that it's important for dear people of Lev Novak."
