LITERARY SOIREE ABOUT GREAT ACTOR

Kostanay 13.09.2005

Literary soiree devoted to creation of Valentin Gaft, not so long ago celebrated his jubilee, took place in Kostanay Community Center. The creation of one the most talented actors in FSU appeared interesting as for elder community generation as for young members of the community.

The leader of Kostanay department of Republican Jewish Library, and wonderful narrator, Alla Gafurova told the guests about Valentin Gaft’s creative development. Valentin was born in 2nd of September in 1935 in Moscow. Gaft’s keenness on theatre became apparent when he was in 4th form, during the watch of Sergey Mikhalkov’s play "Special Task" in children theatre. But by his own admission he has not a willing to be an actor that time.

Gaft’s family was not theatrical at all. His father, Joseph, was surprisingly modest, but strong and proud man with self respect. He was lawyer, had passed almost the whole war and finished it as major. The future actor learnt orderliness from his mother, she inculcated love to order and cleanliness in him.

And stage attracted Valentin more and more, and in 1953, after graduating from school he entered studio school MHAT. He studied together with Eugenie Urbansky, Oleg Tabkov, and Maya Menglet.

At the same time with actor’s success, Gaft got one more notability. He became famous as an author of sharp, at times poisonous epigrams. Gaft’s epigrams are scathing, aphoristic, and they represent remarkable poetic talent of the author.
