EVGENIY DOLMATOVSKIY

   Literary hall of Pavlodar Jewish community center held an evening devoted to an oeuvre of a poet and prose writer Evgeniy Dolmatovskiy. On May 5th Evgeniy Aronovitch could be 90 years old.

  First publications of Evgeniy Dolmatovskiy appeared in "Pionerskaya pavda" ("Pioneer truth") in 1930. Some times later he went as volunteer to a building of Moscow underground, to whom he devoted his poetry novel "Volunteers" (1956). In 1941-1945 Dolmatovskiy was a military journalist. Among books of war-time are the following: "Pesniya o Dnepre" ("A song about Dniepre"), "Stepnaya tetrad" ("Steppe copy-book").

  The best work of Dolmatovskiy about war is a poem "Propal bez vesti" ("Missing in action") - about a person, coming out of blockading cordon. After the war he traveled a lot around the country. His numerous collections of poems include: "Kniga rovesnikov" ("A book of coevals"), "Slovo o zavtrashnem dne" ("A word about tomorrow day"), "Pryamolineynie stihi" ("Rectilinear poems") etc. He also used a fiction–documental prose genre: "Avtografi pobedy" ("Autographs of Victory"), "Bilo. Zapiski poeta" (That had happened. Poet’s notes"). Literary critical articles, essays, recollections of Dolmatovskiy are gathered in books "Iz zhizni poezyi" ("From poetry life") (1969) and "Molodym poetam" ("To young poets") (1981).

  Dolamtovskiy is an author of major popular songs: "Favorite city", "Random waltz", "Motherland hears, Motherland knows" and many others.
