In exhibition hall of Hesed "Polina" the opening of the exhibition of American artist of Jewish origin, Vitally Vecsler. The author himself lives and works in New York and that’s why exposition got a title "New York… New York". As Vitally Vecsler says:
"This exhibition is a glance of person who hasn’t been living in New York for a long time. Ten years is not much time for an artist who chooses to make a portrait of the city. It is not so simple for the new comer for whom New York is not only a city - it is a country - with huge diversity of habits, traditions, and lifestyles. A person needs years and years to feel settled here…Big cities? Like people? Reveal their true features only in some particular moments. New York is not an exception. It can be friendly and rough, vulgar and elegant, funny and sometimes even sorrowful. It depends on one’s point of view and personality. My work has been going on several years, but I feel that it is just the beginning.
New York does not like any other city on Earth. Depictions of other major cities of the world are complete: the Paris created by impressionists, London with its famous fogs, invented by Turner.
New York is waitingfor its portraitists. The image of New York is constantly evolving. This work requires an enthusiastic and romantic attitude. To fully understand New York, one must spend a lifetime here, and even that might not be enough."
The history of opened in Hesed exhibition is interesting enough too. Some time ago in Almaty has come son of the artist - Matthew - and handed in gift to Jewish community of Kazakhstan work of the father "Street in Mea- Sharim ". We have phoned with Vitally Vecsler and offered to present his works at our exhibition. He kindly agreed to send photos of pictures exposed in galleries of New York. These photos were printed out on a canvas and are presented at an exhibition.
Besides we have found out, that in a State museum of Arts named after Kasteev (Almaty) the favourite schoolgirl of Vitally Vecsler - Sara Daskhodjaeva works which also gave on an exhibition work, which she was given by teacher. In storehouse of a State museum some works of Vecsler, executed during his life in Alma-Ata, when he worked as the teacher in Art school were also find. The works are executed as an illustration to products of Isaac Babel, who is for the author the favourite writer.
On the opening of an exhibition acted the director of Hesed "Polina" Natalie Dorman, and also his schoolgirl: Sara Daskhodjaeva, which now is managing restoration workshop of a State museum of Arts named after Kasteev and artist Fatima Tarazi.
