ON A VISIT AT THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF ALMATY

Worning visit to Kazakhstan of the American journalist, correspondent of the newspaper "The Jewish Week ", Steve Lipman began today. First of three cities, which in this arrival will be visited by the journalist, became Almaty. Then he will leave for Karaganda, where will lead for a community Passover Seder. And the acquaintance of Mr. Lipman with the Jewish community of Republic will be finished in new capital of Kazakhstan - Astana. The purpose of arrival of the American journalist in Kazakhstan is first of all acquaintance with life of the Jews of region and features of a local community. Also Mr. Lipman was interested in that huge work which in republic already more than 10 years, conducts American Jewish Distribution Committee "Joint". By the way, due to activity of "Joint", in Kazakhstan today works already 13 Hasadim and 13 Community Centres, assisting to the Jews in 160 settlements of republic. After conversation - acquaintance with the president of Association of the Jewish national organizations of Kazakhstan "Mitsva" Alexandr Baron and leaders of the programs Hesed "Polina", and also Jewish Community Centre "Rimon", Steve Lipman leaded a number of interviews with the members of the Jewish community of Almaty. After lunch he visited supervised by Hesed "Warm Home" and has communicated to the participants of this program. Then the correspondent of "The Jewish Week" with satisfaction noted, that in one week he will be able to tell to his readers not simply about the Jews of Kazakhstan as a whole, and about life and destinies of the people becoming for him personally embodiment of the Kazakhstan community.
