MEMORY IN OUR HEARTS

The Jews of all world honoured memory of righteous man, known Rabbi Levi-Itzhac Shneerson, Lubavitchesky rabbi's father. 63rd anniversary from the date of death of Rabbi and birthday of Almaty synagogue collected a community. In present year these dates fell on Shabbat, therefore events were celebrated last Sunday.

Rabbi Shneerson was born in Ukraine in 1871. Many years he was chief rabbi of Dnipropetrovs’k. His senior son, r. Menakhem-Mendel Shneerson, - was seventh Lubavitchesky Rebe. Lubavitchesky Rebe - was leader of movement "Chabad", which has arisen at the end of XVIII century in Russia in borough Lubavitch, head of present generation of the Jews.

R. Shneerson was arrested by PCIA in March, 1939 for religious activity, was accused of the anti-Soviet propagation and was banished on territory of our republic.

Being in banishment, up to the end of the days he continued activity of rabbi. He died in August, 1944, soon after his transference from Kzyl-Orda area, where he served the banishment, was buried in Almaty. In 1989 was exonerated. December 19, 1999 the President of RK personally transferred three volumes of materials of case of L.I.Shneerson from archives of KNB to library of Lubavitchesky Rebe in New-York.

Central synagogue of Kazakhstan bears name of Rabbi Levi-Itzhac Shneerson. The first stone under construction of a building of synagogue was laid on anniversary of his death.

The members of Kazakhstan Jewish community, foreign visitors will take part in celebration. The public prayer devoted to light memory of r. Shneerson, for the consent and well-being in Kazakhstan will be made. Chief Rabbi of RK r. Yeshayah Cogan will make memorable speech in honor of r. Shneerson.
