TO REMEMBER THE TRUTH

Almaty 19.10.2007

Agree, it is always pleasant to get gifts, especially, when they are given from the bottom of the heart. Inna Ponomareva transferred in gift to Jewish republican library of Kazakhstan 5 copies of the collection made by her husband Michael Ponomarev "People do not keep silence".

Michael Ponomarev got economic education, worked in research institute, Gosplan and only having retired on pension put pen to the paper. The first book "Twice born" he devoted to division in which was at war. As a material served the own memoirs, stories of brother-soldiers. The following theme was destiny of repressed, all life exciting the writer. You see in the published collection there are pages and about him, and also about his family.

Since seven-years age Michael Ponomarev felt all bitterness of unfair condemnation. The Ponomarevs family was "dispossessed". For the picking up they were given half an hour, not having permitted anything to take from things. Here is how describes the childhood the author of the collection: "Exit outside of a settlement was strictly forbidden. To us, children to study and even to communicate with children of the local, free inhabitants it were inadmissible. In the winter - frost and famine, in summer - famine and clouds of mosquitoes…" In 1937 Ilya Ponomarev, the father of Michail Ponomarev, without any fault was arrested and shot in two months. And even the participation in Great Patriotic war did not erased from Michael Ponomarev brand of "the son of an enemy of the people".

The materials of conference on a theme "Violent collectivization and political reprisals in Kazakhstan" conducted in February, 1995 in Almaty and also Tumen meeting, past in November, 1994, on which children and the grandsons of dispossessed peasants shared with their memoirs are included in the edition "People do not keep silence" . The archival documents revealing depth of tragedy of all generation, living at totalitarian mode are also given here.

For Inna Ponomareva the destiny of the book is not indifferent. "We, people of XX century, remember that time such, as it was, - says Inna, - and the youth knows the truth from the books. Therefore it is important to write about the past".
