In metropolitan synagogue the assembly of the Jewish community of Astana, devoted to Day of memory of victims of political reprisals was held. In a measure took part chief rabbi of Republic of Kazakhstan Yeshayah Cogan, Chairman of a community David Ben Nani, and President of "Mitsva" Association Alexandr Baron. The members of a community told histories of the families, many of which had appeared in Kazakhstan not willfully, but in summary actions of political will of authorities of that time.

Yeshayah Cogan in his speech noted: "Today's assembly is very indicative. We can freely speak about such terrible things, about a tragical history of our ancestors and relatives, being in largest and beautiful synagogue in Central Asia. The President of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev took part in ceremony of its opening, and it demonstrates what large meaning gives the present state to freedom of creed and tolerance. You see just half-century ago in same territory, fighting for the right freely to follow the laws of the religion, the father of Lubavitchesky Rebe Rabbi Levi-Itzhac Shneerson died. It has taken place because the authority of that time put the political interests above divine values, higher than love to the man. Today we are sure in the future of our children and that events of those times" here will not be repeated.
