CHILDREN OF WAR

Kostanay 16.05.2007

Our generation of children of pre war and military years leaves life and we do not want, and we have no the right to hold back and to carry away with ourselves memory of the perfect, clever, wise man, director of Lubarsk Children's Home of Zhitomir area on Ukraine, Prohnitsky Alexandr.

For us, children orphans, the wars was test for a survival, but not easier were after war1945-46-47-48 years. We have got in Children's house in March, 1947. The first months were hardest: famine, cold, disorder.

The children's house settled down in old manor house, which was destroyed by war.

In May 47 in children's house arrived the new director - Prohnitsky Alexandr, officer with a stick, after hospitals, pale in connection with heavy wounds. And since the first days of occurrence of the new director our life changed.

Basically in children's house there were children of lost warriors and miraculously escaped children Jews, destroyed by the fascists.

Alexandr Prohnitsky taught us to love life, to love and to respect each other and elderly, to love a nature and animals.

First: the discipline - morning line for all children and employees, it lasted 5-10 minutes. All questions for forthcoming day and report of the attendants for past were solved.

Each eagerness in study and work was encouraged morally and financially. The irons on carbons in each group were got: all children should be tidy. On preparation of lessons 2 hours were given, other time everybody worked. The attendants: on kitchen, restaurant, bedroom, laundry and in younger group 1-2 classes. Others worked on garden, in a court yard.

In spring 1948 the large two-storied house was repaired by forces of the employees and children. The avenues were landed: Cherry Avenue to canteen, lilac to a laundry, jasmine, bird cherry tree. The platforms, flower-beds were broken. Behind each group the avenues, platform were fixed. Children were engaged in business.

Somewhere was extracted horse and with what love to it the director related, named main helper and all of us would like to bring to it grass and to stroke.

In children's house was brass band and string orchestra, circles: choral, dancing, sports gymnastics, bubble sewing. Once there arrived two young girls, they were after hospitals - wounded, but were able to sew, to knit, to embroider, to play on string instruments and all to this taught us.

5-year's anniversary of Victory Day - May 9, 1950 never will be forgotten. To all children (200 men) there was laced marine form with peakless cap. The director has got a dark blue and white material. The form sewed in the workshop. The girls workers cut, the senior groups sewed by the sewing machine, younger groups overstitched seams, sewed buttons and tapes for peakless cap. And when we in a line passed on villages and cities the people with pride spoke: "Go inmates of children’s houses, there will be a good concert". And we liked it all very much we went as the heroes.

We are now from 65 till 75 years old and we still recollect with pride, that we are inmates of children's houses and can do all by the hands - in it a merit of the clever, wise man Alexandr Prokhnitsky.
