LEHAIM, DAVAR!

Almaty 19.06.2009

Our favorite news bulletin of the Jewish Community of Kazakhstan has turned 10 year old! Davar- is one of the first Jewish newspapers in Kazakhstan, it was first published in May of 1999. The newspaper is read not only in Kazakhstan, but also in Russia, Israel, USA, and Germany.

Over 40 volunteers gathered in Hesed Polina cafeteria for Shabbat. Volunteers are the soul of a charity organization, heroes of many articles published by Davar. The celebration was a common holiday. We invited guests - all those who had worked in the newspaper during these 10 years.

The first editor of Davar Yuriy Kashtelyuk said "I remember the very beginning - every issue that we have published. Any good word about our work said at that time, 10 year ago, gave me strength to move forward. I thank everybody that you always supported me. Thanks to you I realized that it was our joint community newspaper". Writer and journalist Lyudmila Varshavskaya, who also worked as an editor: "The newspaper, which first was dedicatedly created by Yura, got on its feet. I can say with confidence that it is a good newspaper". The current editor Isaak Dvorkin revealed: "Thanks to the newspaper I opened the Jewish world for myself. I was not deprived of important things by God, I knew my grandmothers and grandfathers and I know about Jewish people not by hearsay. But in the community, the newspaper is representing that spirit, which serves as a live link between different generations".

President of Mitsva Association Alexander Baron cordially congratulated the newspaper: "Davar newspaper has a great future. I think it is one of the most successful Jewish newspapers in the CIS". Merit certificates and gifts were presented to Yu. Kashtelyuk, L. Varshavskaya, I. Dvorkin, D. Lyskovskoy. Gratitude letters were given to S. Nezhinskoy, L. Koretskoy, and the youngest correspondent Yana Fisher.

For the last 10 years, our friends and clients got to like Davar and have been waiting for its every new issue. All important events in the life of the Jewish community are reflected on the pages of this newspaper. Historically, community has always been the center of Jewish life and publishing its own newspaper has become a special and remarkable event in the community life. The newspaper staff has never been large. But the newspaper has been published regularly all these years.

Ensemble Sovlanut and Retro Club 7:40 came to congratulate the newspaper. They sang witty songs about Davar. Inna Yenina, Supervisor of Volunteers Program, thanked all volunteers, who have helped the newspaper including S. Nezhinskaya, L. Koretskaya, G. Lipker, M. Kabirova, and wished them further success in their work.

Merit certificates and thank you letters were granted to employers and volunteers of the Jewish Community Centers in the regions: A. Itkin, from Kokshetau, L. Brodskaya, Karaganda, I. Tveritneva, Pavlodar, R. Zherebetskaya, Pavlodar, F. Suponitskaya, Ust-Kamenogorsk, A. Koroleva, Taraz, I. Bukina, Taraz, L. Kazakevich, Kostanay. Merit certificates and gratitude letters will be delivered to these people to their cities.

Davar is a Russian-language newspaper, but from its first page to the last it is a Jewish newspaper by the choice of topics, by publications’ goals, by the characteristics of information chronicle, and by reflection of some special aspects.
