MOVEMENT "e2 - e4"

Community Centre "Rimon" of Almaty city pays considerable attention to sports. People can choose from a number of games according to their preference: soccer, volleyball, basketball, checkers, chess and many others.

On October 25 the selection chess tournament which revealed winners for participation in the finale took place. Chess players of different ages, from schoolers to the elders of our community, came together to participate in it. There were two family teams: Andrey and Vladimir Korzhikov and Igor and Yuriy Tsatsin. The female division of the chess community was represented by only one player- Yulia Loboda. There was no shortage of female cheerers, though! The chief judge of the competition Galina Chelokhsaeva selected the winners according to the score and a number of winning games, and Olga Drobnokhod lent her a hand. The parties played at high level revealed six conquerors, which will play against each other in the finale for the "chess crown".

Ruslan Archakov led the sport section for more than two years. He said: "This competition is carried out for the purpose of popularization of the chess game among the members of the Jewish community of Almaty. The tournament was conducted with the limited time control (15 minutes or less to decide on the next movement), on the circular system. As a quantity of those desiring to participate in it was about twenty people, it was decided to perform the competition in two stages: semi-final and finale. The number of participants in the finale will be not less than six people".

The chess tournament was broadcast on television and was positively evaluated by the participants and the spectators alike.
