WE REMEMBER

28.04.2009 Almaty

On the 28th of April, people gathered in the Jewish Community Center Rimon to participate in the mourning meeting. Holocaust - is everlasting pain of Jewish people. The word holocaust is translated from Hebrew as catastrophe. Genocide of our people executed by Nazi regime became a real catastrophe - every two Jews from every three Jews were killed.

The mourning meeting was opened by Director of the Republic Jewish Library Galina Korobkina: "Holocaust is a pain of each family all over the world. And the only thing we could do for those killed during the World War II is to remember them. Remember those who were burnt, shot, and buried alive only because they were Jews."

People who personally experienced horrors of fascism spoke at the meeting including Lyubov Koretskaya, Elena Pritsker, Gita Yakovleva. They wished that this tragedy would never happen again to anybody and anywhere. While they were speaking, on the background screen there were shown scenes of violence committed in gettos, horrors in concentration camps, and as continuation, terrorism of modern time.

The word Holocaust in English means "a victim of burnt offering". It is symbolic - souls burnt in the flame of the war. Everybody who came at the meeting lit a candle to commemorate their relatives and friends who died in that horrible war and to commemorate those unknown 6 million people who did not see the Victory over fascism. People observed a minute of silence looking at dozens of lit candles.

Recently in Washington, Kazakhstan transferred to the Museum of Memory of Holocaust Victims, which is conducting research work in archives of more than 40 countries, historic documents. The Head of the Research Department Paul Shapiro said that Kazakhstan was the first country in Central Asia Region to submit valuable archive findings.
