BOOK FESTIVAL - 2009

Shymkent 29.11.09

On November 29 in Shymkent House of Peoples Friendship, an annual Community Festival of the Jewish Book was held. The festival always reminds us of the most important thing - about the people’s historic chronicle, reflection of the people’s life.

This year the festival is devoted to the Jewish writer Dina Rubina. Many people, who would like to learn more about her works, gathered for this bright holiday although it was a gloomy autumn day. The room was decorated with posters containing the festival emblem, a floating sailing ship, and children’s drawings. In the lobby there were Dina Rubina’s books exhibited for everybody interested.

The Program of the Community Festival of the Jewish Book was carefully prepared and was interesting to people of different age. Dina Sulumova told about the writer’s development period. Dina Rubina once wrote about herself, "My childhood, as well as my teenage and young years were spent in a cramped for space apartment, where I did not have my own place… I had music classes for several hours a day at a special music school under the conservatoire… So, there was a lot to write about."

Lena Pluzhnikova introduced everybody with famous stories of Dina Rubina "When will it be snowing…?", "Music lessons", excerpts from "Handwriting of Leonardo" and others.

Children from the Jewish Sunday school prepared mini-performance and poems for the Festival. The guests of the Festival, folklore musical instruments ensemble under the supervision of Alexander Korotkov and the group Theater, performed Jewish rock-n-roll, the song Shalom, and other music things.

The community Festival of the Jewish Book - is a bright cultural event. Our community is proud of it.
