On October 20th, in the literary salon of Hesed Polina, a presentation of the novel Exodus written by Leon Yuris was held. This is a great novel consisting of five books based on real historic events, which still have living witnesses and participants. Of course, the novel heroes were made up by the author, excluding famous people like Churchill, Truman, Pirson, whose life and work was connected with those events. The book by Leon Yuris became a bestseller in the US in the 80-90s of the last century. It was first published in Russian in 2000 with 5000 copies printed.
The novel Exodus tells about the Jews coming back to their historic motherland from different countries, and about establishment of the State of Israel.
Our Mikhail Bunin presented all five books in a very captivating manner. This is an emotional story of struggling people who want to leave without losing their dignity. The center of the plot is a story of love between an American nurse and a man whose meaning of life is struggling for the freedom of Israel. The novel heroes happened to be in the epicenter of the most tragic events of the 20th century.
The topic raised by Mikhail Bunin, made everybody think of their own attitude to the described events. The presentation developed into an interesting discussion on religious and historic topics.
