Grigory Ilyich Zaltzman is remembered by grateful students and his colleagues as a brilliant clinician, erudite, magnificent teacher and a wonderful person. They organised an opening ceremony of the memorial plaque on the building of the Department of Medical Institute of the National Research Centre of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Narcology, where he worked and governed for forty nine year. The ceremony took place on 15 December 2010. It is inspiring to see people honour their teacher and appreciate their colleague.

Apart from the representatives of psychiatric public of Almaty the ceremony was attended by four generations of Zaltzman family: the wife of Gregory Ilyich Doctor Galina Chernish, his daughter Doctor Irina Zaltzman, his son doctor Ilya Zaltzman, his granddaughter psychiatrist Pauline and the little great-grandson Igor.

We approached Irina Grigorievna Zaltzman and asked her to share her feelings with us. She said: "I am pleased that my father is still remembered and people are proud of knowing him. Sometimes a person is forgotten as soon as he leaves. My father has left us ten years ago, but he is not forgotten and is still respected. His pupils and colleagues made every effort to open this memorial plaque".

Grigoriy Ilyich Zaltzman's life exemplified service to the people. The Jewish community of Almaty is proud of the fact that the merits of Kazakhstan’s well-known psychiatrist are celebrated.
