THE JOY OF AUTUMN HOLIDAYS

Taraz 18.11.10

On Sukkot holiday, parents with their children built huts. The kids decorated them with paper garlands. There were festively laid tables in the sukkahs with fruits and sweets.

Director of Taraz Hesed Elena Dmitrieva congratulated everybody on the holiday and wished them health, happiness, and success. Hayunya Fishelevna Greenberg told about the commandment to live in a hut during the Sukkot days watching the stars through the branches and talking to G-d like our ancestors. The children listened attentively, many were taking notes.

Then the kids learned that Sukkot is a religious holiday and how it is celebrated in different parts of our planet. Especially, the guys were impressed by the letters from the war front written by Jewish heroes who died for Eretz Israel. The soldiers wrote the letters during the holiday of Sukkot: "On the first day of the war, I felt a strong spiritual inspiration during the final evening prayer. Now I am at least calm in my soul because I know that if anything happens, I am convinced that I opened a new stage of my spiritual growth at the beginning of this war. And so my soul is at peace, and my heart is full of consent." We were reading these letters with the children and we all had a feeling that we follow this ancient tradition, continue the work of the children of Israel.

The guys made paper birds and gave each other so that each house had a symbol of blessing, peace, and happiness. After the quiz "Connoisseurs of Jewish Tradition" we identified the winners - Maxim Smerichinsky, Nadia Murzahmetova, Shakhnoza Khudaybergenova, and others.

We also had a holiday of Simchat Torah in our community. Hayunya Fishelevna told about the beginning of the annual cycle of Torah reading. The boys drew flags which symbolized peace and scrolls of the Book. This day is a symbol of joy which gives us energy for the whole year. The kids and adults had fun and danced. Elena Yakovlevna played the violin creating the wonderful Jewish music. On this day, we decided to go together with our children to the park and then to the theater. We walked through the alleys of the park enjoying the last warm days, the kids were riding the amusement rides.

Ruslan Kobrik said, "It is good that we have a lot of holidays! I like it that during Sukkot we built a hut and were eating in it, received guests, participated in the quiz "Do you know the tradition." And for Simchat Torah we painted beautiful flags and danced. I love coming to Hesed, it is interesting here, I like being on stage and participate in productions at the theater, watch interesting performances, and walk in the park."

Ludmila Snegirevskaya (a parent) added: "The story about the holiday of Simchat Torah made a great impression on me. We read the Torah and it is always impresses us. You just need to trust the G-d. Sukkot and Simchat Torah help us get closer to G-d, understand that he loves us. We are very happy that our children go to Hesed."

On behalf of all children and parents I would like to thank Heseds of Almaty and Taraz and personally Alexander Baron and all our sponsors for the happy childhood of our boys and girls. In Hesed our kids learn and play, culturally develop and, mostly important, they realize that they are Jews.
