June, 10th, 2011 at Republican Institute of Psychiatry and Narcology the conference devoted to memory of the doctor of medical sciences, brilliant teacher and clinical physician, professor, chairman of Almaty Institute of Psychiatry Grigory Zaltsman has taken place. This year he would be 85.

Grigory Zaltsman is by right considered as one of pillars of the Kazakhstan psychiatry. He was one of those people who created all modern Kazakhstan psychiatric science, his ideas and work were absolutely innovative. His pupils continue developing his works and he also was favourite by everyone. Even people “from a street” used to come for his lectures. As spouse of professor Zaltsman, Galina Chernysh marks: «He used to give lot of good advices; he used to watch scientific growth of youth. He used chose some of students and involve deeply into psychiatry». Besides the basic subject Grigory Zaltsman made lectures about political conditions, and these seminars were always briskly as he explained in detail and interesting. The son of professor Zaltsman, Ilya Zaltsman, also doctor of psychiatry, told not only about professional but about Grigory Zaltsman’s personal qualities: «I never heard a bad response about people from him. Even if someone made a bad thing, my father would have estimated the act only without transferring on the person».

Everyone who knew professor Zaltsman marks that he had been very modest person. He didn't consider his work as something outstanding. Pupils of doctor Zaltsman, Mariam Dzhamantaeva and Ljzzat Bazarbaeva, expressed their huge gratitude to their teacher. «He managed to show us the real psychiatry and he used to always explain any question patiently ». «This conference is an ode to Grigory Zaltsman both for his scientific and pedagogical achievements».

Though professor Zaltsman was so modest that he hadn’t left personal archive, Republic Kazakhstan’s scientific world remembers and highly appreciates his merits. And the Jewish community of Kazakhstan is also proud of such outstanding scientist, the remarkable person who has made the huge contribution to science of the country where we live.
