What is the modern library? What are purposes and problems, how work should change? Participants of the round table devoted to a problem to modern communal library, members of the Jewish community of Almaty tried to answer all these questions. There were the president of Association of the Jewish organizations of Republic Kazakhstan Aleksandr Baron, director of Hesed Inessa Chugainova. As the leader and the moderator of a round table was the head of the Jewish communal library named after Moris Simashko Natalia Kovalenko.

Leaders of communal life Sara Dotsenko, Arcady Plotkin and Svetlana Nezhinsky actively participated in discussion of the future of library. The special and professional literature increase was expressed by the head of the program "Home care" Valentina Sokolkova. Alexander Baron summed up the discussion. Especially he underlined the communal orientation of library: «Majority of problems are solved, if solve togethe ». As the corner-stone Alexander Baron put the Jewish orientation and an openness to the newest technologies, readiness to introduce them in library work.

However it is necessary to notice that the majority of questions, including the most important: «What is a modern library?» remained unresolved. Active brain storm only has mentioned some questions, answers on which else should be found. However, it is necessary to notice that it was the first experience of a similar round table – discussions which would try to define a direction of work of one of programs. In the future similar communal round tables begin to be spent more often, and, probably, this approach will appear effective in the decision of many questions.
