We are not in Cairo, but the old Jewish cemetery is located near inhabited quarter. However, this compelled neighbourhood doesn't make it attractive for visitings. Absence of a fence allows many people to arrange picnics near monuments.
Burial places of first half of 19 centuries are almost forgotten. Probably, the theme of old Jewish burial places is actual for many communities. Similar problems should be solved. On the offer of Hesed to make cemetery cleaning responded many people. We have armed with stock and arrived into the place. In comparison with traces of mankind of a thicket of a nettle and the dried up boughs mean nothing. How to cope with indifference and vandalism?
Thanks to all who hasn't stood aside! There were our senior members of the Community: Galina Valitsky, Valentina Manuylov, Tamara Sorokin, Alexander Kozynez, Simeon Rahman, and our youth under the direction of Ilya Barohovsky and special thanks to family of Roidshtein who came with full complement led by 6 years old Vladik. The kid vigorously carried garbage in the toy bucket, setting an example responsiveness and diligence.
We’ve done everything we could. We hope it will be possible to solve a problem with protection of a cemetery.
