The seminar "Tolerance - the lessons of Holocaust"
organized by "Mitsva" Association, Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC),
and Ukrainian Center for the study of Holocaust history began in Almaty on February
7.
Holocaust in Hebrew means "extermination", in English -
"burnt offering". In this case the notion stands for Nazi's genocide
against the Jews during WWII (1939 - 1945). Systematical murder of
6 million Jews has no precedents and is considered to be the greatest crime
in the world history. Two out of every three Jews were killed.
The seminar was one of the first steps to realize the project "Tolerance -
the lessons of Holocaust" offered by the EAJC; its main aim is to provide
schoolchildren with information of Holocaust, to develop ethnic and religious
tolerance and respect for all the people.
According to the experience of European countries, tension between
teenagers of different nationalities is reduced in the groups involved into
this project; they show interest in other peoples, their culture, history, and
tradition.
Experienced professionals from Ukraine and Kazakhstan took part
in the seminar - candidates of philosophy, teachers of history, and other
professional lecturers contributed to the study of Holocaust and developing
tolerance among people.
