The
First international scientific conference "Jews in Kazakhstan: History,
Religion, Culture" held on November 12-13 in Almaty gathered many guests.
Participants from Kazakhstan (Prof., Dr. of historical science Naum Shafer,
candidate of historical science Tamara Volkova, candidate of historical science
Saule Zhakisheva, and others), as well as scientists from Russia (candidate
of historical science Michail Savinych and Dr. of historical science Shamsiya
Muchamedina), Kirghizstan (Dr. of historical science Alexander Yarkov), Uzbekistan
(Prof., Dr. of historical science Shodmankul Pirimkulov and historian-archeologist
Ludmila Zhukova), Israel (Ilya Kovler) prepared reports specially for the conference.
The representatives of different nationalities who did not know each other before
excitedly discussed the subject which became familiar and comprehensible to
them for months of work - the history of Jews in Kazakhstan.
But the history of Jews in Kazakhstan is interesting not only for
researchers. Representatives of several Embassies became interested in the conference.
On the opening we and organizers were congratulated by the Ambassador of Israel
in Kazakhstan Moshe Kamchi, the Ambassador of Germany Andreas Kerting, the Ambassador
of Hungary Miklosh Yatskevich, representatives of the USA, Malaysian, and Turkish
Embassies, and the representative of local authorities Vladimir Ivanov.
There were no indifferent listeners in the auditorium. The participants,
organizers, and auditory became utterly absorbed in the exciting search of the
truth. Every new report made the image of a Jew who has been living in Kazakhstan
for a long time clearer and clearer.
Today we can definitely say that the meeting was a success and that
it was only the beginning of a long, interesting way.See
