"Mitsva" Association and Republican Jewish Library present a
collection of "Jewish Proverbs and Sayings".
It was published in memory of the author, a famous philologist
Prof. Kopylenko. The pilot issue is 20 copies. The president of "Mitsva"
Association gave ten books to Kopylenko's daughter Irina, who made significant
efforts to the publication.
"This book is a gratifying kiss by your father",
said Kopylenko's close friend when he received the collection.
The
rest of the copies have been distributed through branches of the Republican
Jewish library as a gift for Hanukah.
Kopylenko began working on his book in 1951, but it was not
published while he was alive. It contains 158 proverbs and sayings with
translations to Hebrew and Russian, and 61 humorous aphorisms by Sholom-Alechem.
Most of the phrases collected in the book were commonly used
by Jews in Russian Empire in the late XIX century.
The book was translated to Hebrew by the "Rimon"
JCC teacher Jacob Bronstein (Almaty), Zhanna Gluhovskaya and Josef Milrud
(San-Francisco, the USA).
