 On
26 Kislev 5764 the Jews of Karaganda celebrated the festival of lights
and freedom - Hanukah. The meeting was arranged by the Hesed "Miriam"
and "Shemesh" JCC staff.
About 300 people gathered in a big hall. It was decorated
with festive wall newspapers prepared by young members of the community.
 The
religious program coordinator Alexander Abramovitch said the prayers and
lit Hanukah candles. After official congratulations the festive concert
began.
 "Perurim"
center and "Shatil" youth club presented Hanukah poems and songs.
"Ot Azoy" vocal group performed their touching Hanukah program
consisting of Yiddish songs.
 As
their performance finished the JCC director Irina Kozhanovskaya awarded
two "Karaganda Jewish stars" - philharmonic singer Emilia Kichikyan
and young Stella Suhorukova who represented our community at the competition.
The concert finished to the loud cheers of the public.
