ISRAEL RADIO IS INTERESTED IN OUR "BOROUGH"

On August 14 www.mitsva.kz told its visitors about the club of spoken Yiddish "Borough" opened in the Hesed "Polina". Since then the "Borough" has become a month older, conducted 4 meetings, attracted new participants, and… roused the interest of Israel radio!

"Hello!" runs the letter our web site has received the next day after the "Borough" information. "I am the editor of Yiddish programs at Israel radio. We would like to interview the head of the club on the phone and to find out how the lessons are organized, what the students are interested in, how often the meetings are held etc."

And now Arie London is ready to speak with the head of the "Borough" Yakov Vinnitsky. The editor is pleased with Yakov's knowledge of Yiddish.
"Yakov, are you ready?" - a pleasant voice asks. "Let's start then."

We are trying to understand the meaning of their talk. One of Yakov's students is translating in a low voice. Her teacher is telling not only about the "Borough", but also about the Jewish community of Kazakhstan and "Mitsva" Association in general. He is describing the way "Mitsva" helps Jews in more than 100 localities of Kazakhstan, provides traditional education for children and adults, and assists the elderly people to study their national culture.

15 minutes ended very soon. Many of us stopped listening to the translation and simply enjoyed the sound of Yiddish. The words reminded old songs.
We hope it was not the first meeting of the "Borough" club and Israel radio. Yiddish is still popular and the club will live and flourish. Mazal Tov!
