"Madrigot"
in Hebrew means "steps". It is the title of a collection of Jewish
songs for children, compiled by a group of "Rimon" JCC music teachers.
This collection is special, because it is based on an effective though simple
pedagogical idea.
One of the authors of the collection Ida Utigalieva says:
"The
idea of an adopted collection for children was in the air. We wanted children
to play and sing their people's songs. For example, the prayer over lighting
Sabbath candles. I know that one is not allowed to play music instruments during
Shabbat. But children can learn the melody and it will remain with them forever.
"We
based on the "Anthology of Jewish songs". There appeared "Tum-Balalayka",
"Adon Olam", "Erets Israel" and other songs. Finally there
were two copybooks with music. When we thought of a title, an image of stairs
came to our mind. In Hebrew it is "Madrigot". Every child can start
learning the songs from any step. JCC children illustrated the collection with
their drawings."
There
was no anthology of such kind before. All the songs were recorded specially
for children - beginning musicians. "Rimon" JCC teachers created a
collection that allows to deeper understand famous melodies. Everything children
have acquired remains for all their life. It is especially important for music,
because it is emotional, and children live with emotions, it is wonderful, and
children are not indifferent to beauty.
