Questions: I have read about "a
famous singer Alexander Rehels" who sang at the festive concert dedicated
to Purim. In 1989 after leaving Baku I lost touch with my friend Alexander Rehels.
Maybe he is the very man you write about.
Dear www.mitsva.kz!
Thank
you for showing interest in my request and responding. Besides, you ask to tell
more about myself and my friend Alexander Rehels. It makes me think that I've
got a chance to finally find him.
Since November 1989 I've
lived in the town of Pereslavl-Zalessky, Yaroslavl region. It's situated
half way from Moscow to Yaroslavl.
When leaving Baku I had
a chance to say good buy only to few of my friends. Alexander Rehels was one of
them. I HOPE WE TALK ABOUT ONE AND THE SAME MAN!
I and my wife
Tamara met Rehels in 1983 in Baku Bard Club. He wrote wonderful poems, music,
and sang. So did I, and also I set other authors' poems to music. And I still
do no matter where I work.
Alexander and I often sang at concerts
together. I remember about those days with pleasure. Then he entered a music school,
and in 1985-88 while serving in the army we didn't meet. I heard that after that
he started working in Baku Jewish chamber ensemble.
But life
separated us.
Now and then I heard scanty information of him
living either in Israel or in the USA. I couldn't check if it was true.
As
for me, trying to keep the past I established a Bard Club "Metronome"
in Pereslavl-Zalessky. For the last 12 years it became rather popular
in Russia. The annual "Opening" festival we organize attracts bards
from all over the country. Alexander Rehels's songs are often sung there.
I'll
be very glad if I can contact Alexander with your help and G-d grant,
see him again. I wait and hope.
Yours respectfully,
Viktor
Galustyan.
www.mitsva.kz:
We have contacted Alexander Rehels and it proved that he was the very wonderful
singer and Viktor Galustyan's friend.
"I see, Purim that
brought me the joy of visiting Almaty Jewish community had one more surprise in
store," - Alexander Rehels told us on the phone. "Hard to believe
that after so many years I'll talk to Viktor again! Though why do I wonder -
"Mitsva" in Hebrew means "commandment", that is performing
a disinterested good deed. Disinterested, you see? That's the way miracles happen!"
And today we received an e-mail from Viktor Galustyan:
Hello,
www.mitsva.kz!
I want to thank you and those who relate to
the web-site. It was thanks to you that I found Alexander! We live
in a wondrous time when distance and borders are as virtual as the web. Thank
you very much once more!
We phoned each other, exchanged phone
numbers and home addresses. It's not improbable (thanks to you, I repeat) that
we'll meet this year.
As for me, I will tell all my friends
about www.mitsva.kz and recommend them to visit it!
Wish you
all the best!
