Almaty citizens often recollect about Ruth Tamarina who left
the city eight years ago. She is still a well-known poet
here, and her poems inspire many projects. She is still a member of our
community - she lives in our hearts.
Ruth's friends, admirers, and many other people came to the
soiree dedicated to her creative activity. The editor of "Davar"
newspaper Ludmila Varshavskaya told about the Ruth's life and works. We
found out that the young poet was condemned to 25 years in labor camps
on suspicion of espionage for the USA.
Her life in Kazakhstan began in "Stepnoy" labor
camp in Dzheskazgan. Having served eight years, she was released on probation,
and rehabilitated later on. In 1957 she moved to Almaty and left there.
A member of the Writers' Union of Kazakhstan, the author of
fourteen poetry books and one prose book, she is adored by her readers.
Her poems are recited on the stages, literary soirees and home celebrations.
The Jewish community was glad to meet again, not with Ruth, but with her
works. The city remembers its poet with tenderness.
