 Members
of the Yiddish
club have gathered in the "Rimon" JCC for a regular
meeting. This time they discussed life and books of a famous Jewish writer
Yitshok Leyb Perets.
Yitshok Leyb Perets is a unique phenomenon in
Jewish and World literature. He never published his books till 40, but
his first works attracted millions of readers all over the world.
Perets's books caused heated debates. Who was he? A romanticist,
realist, mystic, or somebody else? The writer searched for lofty ideas,
heroes, and real love. But at the same time he realistically depicts social
injustice and cultural backwardness.
The writer focuses on the Jewish woman. She cares after and
brings up children, but at the same time she is a miserable creature deprived
of human rights, love, and kindness. The author's laconic style allows
him to present deep feelings of his heroes in a few pages.
Being a creator of Jewish psychological story, Perets remains
one of the best novelists in world literature.
