"I am proud for being included in this book
along with outstanding modern writers"

On
July 13 Kazakhstan citizens had a chance to meet with a Kirgizia scientist
and academician Alexander Katsev. He presented his new book "Vozvrashyonye
Imena" ("Returned Names") with the support of Israel Embassy
in Kazakhstan and Kirgizia.
"We are glad that Prof. Katsev has published his new
book, and that the Embassy contributed to its presentation in Kazakhstan",
the Ambassador of Israel in Kazakhstan and Kirgizia Moshe Kamhi says.
"Vozvrashyonye Imena" is closely related to what we are doing
now. The talented writers included in the collection are interested in
the very topical issue - revival of our ethnic culture".
"Vozvrashyonye Imena" is a promised continuation
of Katsev's collection "Rukopisi Ne Govoryat" ("Manuscripts
Don't Talk") published in 1999. The new book is meant mainly for
teachers and students studying the humanities. According to the editors,
every story published in the collection was topical when written and remains
topical today.
"When I began the book, I thought I would write a story
about Russians abroad in early XX century" Alexander Katsev says.
"But then I looked around and realized that what we need now is to
bring back the names that remained outside home literature in late XX.
They are Vasily Aksenov, Segey Dovlatov, Viktor Nekrasov and many others".
The storied presented in the collection reveal the "great
epoch" as the author calls it. The basic topic is emigration. However,
it is not pictured in "good" or "bad" way. Instead
of that there are ironic and critical writings. By the way, 7 of 9 writers
included in the book are Jews.
"How did I select stories for the book? The only criterion
was whether I liked what I read or not. My colleagues sometimes ask, why
I didn't take this or that story, though it seems to fit the style of
"Vozvrashyonye Imena". But… I think you will also like one thing
in the book, and disregard another. I will be glad if you do!"
