A HOLIDAY OF URALSK JEWISH COMMUNITY

Uralsk 27.12.04

A holiday concert, devoted to the end of Chanukah-5765 and 15th anniversary of city Jewish community was held in Uralsk in the House of Friendship.

During all 8 days of the holiday of light Hesed "Golda" was overcrowded. Every evening people lit up candles and gathered at holiday table. On the fifth day of Chanukah children gathered in Hesed. They studied holiday customs and then, in accordance with grandmother's recipes they cooked very tasty doughnuts.

The most scrupulous preparations of community members were preparations to a big holiday concert, planed to be hold on the last day of Chanukah. Rehearsals were held each day. Hesed volunteers and workers created stands, reflecting 15 years of community life.

The concert became the brightest event of Chanukah-5765. The hall was overcrowded. The comers could enjoy poems and songs in three languages: Hebrew, Russian and Kazakh.

JDC and "Mitsva" Association congratulated guests on the holiday of light and on the 15th anniversary of Uralsk community. On behalf of the Jewish nation, representatives of those organizations wished prosperity to Hesed "Golda" and well-being, peace and agreement to the Jews of the city.

Bright dances of "Adazhio" ballet studio and performances of members of Theatre of Book greatly impressed spectators.

After the concert, having gathered at holiday table, representatives of Small Assembly and National Cultural Communities of the city congratulated the Jewish community.

In the framework of the holiday were prepared and held exhibitions of community members' works: artists of N.E. Tihonova and masters of applied art of D. Volkogonova.
