- It is already your second visit to Almaty. Who from the Kazakhstani composers had time to interest you?

- Unfortunately, I am chronically lack of time to get acquainted with them more closely. Though I very much love the Kazakh national music, this year one of the purposes of my arrival - more close to get acquainted with it.

- As the practice shows, modern music - that classical, and pop, and rock - develops at the expense of ethnic roots:

- Yes, but it is very important, that it was not by mirror transferring that the national musicians do, in our sphere. That it was the energy of national force. For example, Tchaikovsky did not use national music literally (as against the composers of “Mighty small group”). But he is felt as the Russian man of XIX century. And that this sensation was, it is necessary very much to love the art and those roots, which supply us.

- You are in a very difficult situation, in you sprout the Jewish music, and east also. And the Russian school due to the Moscow education announce about itself.

- I am Jew and it helps me. I belong to a nation, which already two thousand years turns between the different peoples and countries and absorbs in itself different cultures. As other situation is now perfect, than even of years fifty back. Due to modern means of the communications you can listen to any music, from the countries that you want.

- It is like, that in Kazakhstan the composer is not a profession, but hobby. What soul can not do without. How to make so, that the favourite business helped also to earn?

- It is a very sick theme, and unequivocal recipe is not present. Most important - that it is necessary to write good music. Besides important usual everyday luck that you was heard and was supported. I recently read the letters of Tchaikovsky. We think that he was born such great composer, but actually, when he only has appeared in Moscow, he to anybody was unknown and wrote the rather average compositions. If he was not supported Nicolay Rubinstein, other people have not helped, still it is not known, whether he would create his Sixth symphony.

- Why the composers practically always are not understood by their contemporaries?

- To create good music, it is necessary to go on 20-30 years ahead of the time. It also is the main problem. If we go simply in a leg in due course, we are already lagging behind. And when we outstrip, not always are understood.

- The composers frequently sceptically concern to mass - culture and pop-stars. Say, and we could so, but we consider of the below our advantage. And what is your point of view?

- We neglected with popular music and those laws slightly, on which it is based. We - I mean classical composers. I think, that today we already have understood, that it is necessary to be more flexible and to use this experience too. For example, my last composition refers to as "Viol tango rock a concert". By the way, it(him) with the large success already has executed Maxim Vengerov. He both played, and danced a tango. We should all time move forward and change our concepts. If we shall stiffen it will destroy us.
