LESSONS OF HOLOCAUST

Almaty 21.03.2007

In Almaty, in the House of Friendship, teachers - representatives from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan at the round table discussed questions of teaching of tolerance at lessons of a history. The meeting has passed within the framework of a three-day seminar "Tolerance - lessons of Holocaust" and collected more than 120 teachers.

The Kazakhstan experience checked up by several decades of experience on creation of laboratory of friendship of the peoples, by all participants of a seminar is recognized as most successful. More than 130 nations live here in the peace and consent. The Ukrainian visitors speak, that it is a unique case.

The seminars from a series "Tolerance - lessons of Holocaust" have already become kind tradition for Kazakhstan. Third time they collect in Almaty teachers of public disciplines of general educational and national schools. The organizers of a seminar - are Assembly of Nations of Kazakhstan, Corporate fund ANK, Eurasian Jewish Congress and Association of the Jewish National Organizations of Republic of Kazakhstan "Mitsva". The project was supported - by Ukrainian centre of study of a history of Holocaust. Classes conducted the highly skilled experts: the teachers of the Eurasian Jewish Congress Svetlana Kandeeva and Anatoly Podolsky (Ukraine), and their Kazakhstan colleague Isaac Grinberg.

In Ukraine, for example, so-called, lessons of tolerance, the representatives of the Jewish community practice 10 years already - tell about the Holocaust. Joseph Zisels, representative of general council of the Euroasian Jewish Congress:

- This program "education by a history through lessons of Holocaust" is a part of the large program, which was begun by us in 1997. And when we for the first time send for limits of the Jewish schools and began to teach the Holocaust outside of the Jewish schools, in comprehensive schools. It was the break. We stopped to stew in own juice, when this tragedy stops to be tragedy of one people, and becomes universal and on its example it is possible to bring up tolerance and interconfessional, and interethnic.

General for all countries a problem - decrease of attention on the part of the state to youth. As result increased level of children's criminality. About it also spoke the teachers at the round table:

- We should pay the special attention to education of tolerance at our children. It will be special plus on decrease of teenage criminality, - considers the teacher of secondary school # 32 in Almaty Zuhra Berdygozhina.

Lectures "Interethnic world in region in historical retrospective", "Problems of preservation of the interethnic peace. Tasks of the modern teacher in overcoming of stereotypes and xenophobia" "Reflection of genocides in the modern world" and etc. allowed the teachers to be convinced that introduction of a theme "Tolerance" in the school program opens new prospects of development of the person of the child. The information on sources, development and consequences of genocide, having a place in a history, promotes formation of bases of national and religious tolerance. Thus, school to become a source of an establishment of the peace in the interethnic and interreligious relations being the important aspect of creation of a civil society.

The discussions at the round table were the integral part of Almaty conference. It has helped to reveal a circle of questions, urgent for the Kazakhstan schools. Due to an openness of the conducting and participants, it was possible to mention common for all countries of the world problem of work in teenage environment. You see the teenagers, are more than others, give in to influence of extremists organizations and communities. The teachers unanimously emphasized high activity of the teachers and their interest to a discussed theme.

In Almaty the participants of a conference spent three days. The teachers from 4 countries of CIS received the practical recommendations how to combine at a lesson a history and tolerance. And at schools will pass seminars already for children.

All participants of seminar - 60 teachers - received the certificates signed by the lecturers and the organizers.

Experience of realization of the last educational meetings "Tolerance - lessons of Holocaust", organized, gives reliance that the similar seminars are necessary. The teachers which took part in the project, mark, that at the certain moment they had need reconsider much and even greater to learn about the peoples living near. The atmosphere of the goodwill which has been usual during seminars, promoted an openness of the participants.
